There are times that digital x-rays are not able to show our veterinarians the detail that they need for diagnosis and treatment, and they may recommend an ultrasound to fully examine your pet. Ultrasound is very safe for your pet, it seldom requires anesthesia, and it allows our veterinarians to fully examine the structure of the internal organs. We have several options for ultrasound available for you. We have a beautifully equipped ultrasound in our Latham Animal Hospital, and Dr. Eileen Geagan is able to perform basic abdominal ultrasounds at that location. Dr. Laura Engel is currently training for ultrasound, and she is able to do single structure scans at this time. For more complicated ultrasound exams and endoscopy services, Dr. Elizabeth Shaker, DACVIM (Dimplomat, American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine) comes to our hospitals to perform procedures. Additionally, we maintain excellent relationships with our local specialty groups and we can refer our patients to them when appropriate as well.
