At Capital Vets, we use innovative technology to help you understand your pet’s health needs. We have a variety of tools available in our laboratory for our veterinarians to get the information they need for prevention, detection, and treatment. We use a combination of in house lab equipment, IDEXX reference lab, and specialty tests from the top veterinary schools in the nation to make sure we provide the best option at the appropriate cost for you.
We perform quick screening tests for heartworm, tick borne diseases such as Lyme disease and anaplasmosis, feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), and feline leukemia virus during your appointment. We can also perform baseline screening for your pet in our own labs or through IDEXX. Certain breeds of dogs and cats are vulnerable to breed specific illnesses and problems, so we may recommend early screening to be able to make sure we detect any small changes that may cause difficulties to your pets. We can test urine samples, blood samples, tissue samples, and fecal samples to get the information you need to make informed decisions regarding your pet’s care.
When your pet has a life threatening illness, we can get the answers we need fast through our network of options. We have the ability to use our in house lab to run a complete blood count (CBC), blood chemistry, electrolytes, blood gases, and more. This enables our veterinarians to understand what challenges they need to address immediately. We can also send bloodwork out to IDEXX for additional specialized testing should it be needed. Our relationship with IDEXX and the veterinary college laboratories allows us access to the top specialists in several fields, and we are more than happy to consult with them regarding your pet’s needs.
